Step Jogging can not be selected.

Post by Jos Raven »

Hello Dave,

After almost a year of not using my mill I have been checking and re-calibrating my SX3.

I use Mach3 Ver. R3.043.066 and MSM Ver. 2.0.6 Professional Edition.

The problem is that I cannot select Step Jogging nor select any of the other buttons in Jogging Control Panel.

When I push the Shift button the % sign turns orange.
Pushing the Ctr button lights the Step button (green).
The small "M" icon stays on all the time.
I can change the % value and the _ / + buttons work.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a setting in Mach3 I need to change?

Hi Jos,

I don't remember any mach options that you need to set for jogging. The jogging panel buttons should just work - as long as the "jogging" button is on (green). If the jogging button is off, the other controls in the panel are disabled.

Hi Dave,

The Jogging , Cont and M buttons are Green.
As per page 43 of the 2017 manual.
Clicking on any other button does nothing.
The % value I can change.
The Step value I can not change. I can type a value but on Enter the value jumps back to 1.0000 .
This situation exists longer, but did not disturb me. Now I wanted to fine tune the backlash of the mill and a non working Step Jogging became a nuisance.

thanks,
Jos

Hum, some suggestions then:

1) you can try a reinstall of MSM in case some button scripts got clobbered some how.
2) you can always reinstall mach as well just in case.
3) try a different version of MSM (preferably newer) - though I'd not expect that to make a difference here as I don't remember any bug reports re the jogging keys - and that stuff has been stable since very early days of MSM.

Hello Dave,

I spend an hour or so Googling for this also on the Mach3 forums.
I have this pendant (Chinese of course) , USB PENDANT FOR MACH3.

That pendant is probably the cause of my problem, there are other brands causing this too.

So, your advice of reinstalling both programs makes sense.
For the time being I can live with this until I find a pendant the will cause no anomalies.

I still enjoy MSM very much.
Thanks for your answers.

Ah, ok. If the pendant uses a plugin it's basically impossible for anyone but the pendant vendor to fix it.
A plug in connects at a very low level to mach3 and if poorly written (as many of them are) can mess up the internal functioning of mach3.

Hello Dave,

A re-install of Mach3 solved this.
Just to let you, and other members know what the problem was.
