MachStdMill

Increased productivity integrated with an intuitive user interface.

While MachStdMill started out as a mill centric enhancement package for Mach3 V3 users, the current release inegrates full support for mill, lathe and mill-turn operations. The MSM product uses a clean, consistent user interface (UI) to provide a simple, intuitive work flow for both mill and lathe operation.

The popular MSM UI is available in the free MSM Personal Edtion and supports the stock  functionality of Mach3.

The MSM Professional Edition includes all of the Personal Edition features, and extends the system functionality to include advanced features such as:

  • Mill, Lathe and Mill-Turn operation,
  • Automatic tool measurements during mill tool changes,
  • Best in class integration of 3D probing operations, and
  • Advanced tool table handling.

Digital Machinist magazine articles about MachStdMill's Mill features

Digital Machinist Magazine published a series of articles in 2011 about our MachStdMill software. Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the series are available in back issues of Digital machinist Magazine. The articles pre-dated the release of MSM 2.0 and thus they don't cover MSM's lathe support or the Mill-Turn module.

However, they still provide a good introduction to MSM's mill features.  The core contents of the articles (without the nice page payouts etc of the actual magazine articles) are availabe here as PDF files.

MachStdMill Editions:

MachStdMill is available in two editions: Personal and Professional.

The Personal Edition provides the popular MSM user interface and supports the core features of Mach3. This edition is well matched to the needs of the new Mach3 user and CVI offers the MSM Personal Edition without a license fee, for personal, non-commercial use.

The Professional Edition includes all the Personal Edition features and adds many advanced features not available from stock Mach3. This edition supports the productivity requirements of the professional users. The MSM Professional Edtion is offered under a software license which permits both personal and Professional use.

MachStdMill Key features include:

  • A clean visual appearance, with consistent User Interface (UI) controls that implements a logical flow, optimized for personal & small shop CNC machinists.
  • Simple, automated installation. The installer program does all the hard work, no more wondering if you copied all the files to the right places.
  • Includes a complete user manual (300+ pages) with detailed sections covering both the basic abilities of Mach3 as well as the enhanced functions implemented by MachStdMill. The main user manual covers all Mill opertions and a suplimentary manual covers Lathe and Mill-Turn operations.

  • Mill Operation: Full support for 3 and 4 axis Mill operation.
  • Lathe Operation: Full support for 2 Axis Lathe operation.

  • Tool Handling: Supports “on the fly” tool length offset (TLO) measurements during a tool change.  Provides support of mixed usage of both “repeatable length” and “non-repeatable length” tool holders for Mills.
  • Work Coordinate and Tool tables:  Provides the ability to save Tool tables and Work Coordinate tables to disk, and reload into Mach.  Can create printed reports of Tool and WCO tables.
  • Screen Resolutions:  Supports both 1024x768 and 1280x1024 resolution screens.
  • Master Tool Mode: Implements Master Tool Mode for both mill and lathe operation. For mills, MTM can utilize Tool Change Position touch plates for tooling measurements.
  • Full Documentation:  In addition to the extensive mill and lathe user manuals, the package also includes multiple reference manuals useful when customizing MSM and/or Mach3.
  • User extensible: MachStdMill uses the latest Mach3 scripting interfaces to provide documented, easy interfaces for common interface requirements (e.g. Tool changer macro integration into the M6 sequence). Additionally, MSM can be further customized by the end user (customization procedures are included in the MSM user manual).
  • Professional Quality Software: MSM has developed a reputaiton as stable, bug fee professiinal software. This is the direct result of CVI's professional approach to software development.
