Upgrading MSM Personal to MSM Pro

Post by ken101ken101 »

I currently have MSM Personal loaded and would like to add the probing ability of MSM Pro. Do I need to uninstall the Personal edition before loading Pro or can I simply install Pro normally and clone a new profile? I think this would allow me to easily go back to the Personal edition if for some reason Pro did not work out.

Hi,
Just install MSM pro over MSM personal (the MSM installer knows what needs to be done). No need to change the profile at all. Once MSM pro is installed the next time you start MSM you will be on the pro version. It will start out in trial mode (30 days, assuming you have not had a pro install before on the PC). Feel free to try out the pro features and once you decide you want a lisc, buy it and activate to keep running pro past the trial period. If you want to go back to personal and not buy pro, just reinstall the personal edition.

Thanks Dave, I finally got around to upgrading to MSM Pro. Everything seems to be working properly except the probing functions. I am getting a "Probing Functions Unlicensed" message on the bottom of the probing diagram. I am using the latest release of MSM with Mach 3.43.66. I still have 30 days left on the trial, will purchasing a license fix this?

It sounds like either you have the personal edition installed, or the trial period has expired.
Please look at the upper right corner of an MSM page - what does it say?
The three possibilities are:
1) Personal
2) trial
3) professional

If it says professional, it should also say how many days are left in the trial period when MSM starts.
Click the "Hist" button on a page - that opens the Mach log - is there a message there about the number of trial days left?

The upper right corner says MachStdMill Trial. The Hist log shows nothing regarding trial days. The Reference tab says there is 29 days left on trial license.

Hi,
Now that my brain is back in gear..... (It's been a while since I loaded up a trial installation).

In trial mode, you will see the unlicensed labeling for the Pro Edition only features.
However all the pro features work during the trial period. When the software is licensed, the labels go away.

So, when you said the probing functions were not working, did you just mean that you were seeing the magenta labels, or did you really mean that you tried a probing operation it didn't do any thing or did something that you think is incorrect?

Thanks Dave, I was getting a probing error due to some improperly set parameters. The magenta licensing label made me incorrectly assume that it was a license issue. I am all set now.

The only other issue I currently have is on the Load screen when I click the "Edit" button I get the Path Generation pop-up exactly like I had clicked on the "Regen" button. I have the correct editor path set to notepad.exe. Edit works as it should in the old Mach screen sets. Any ideas? Thanks again!

Great - I'll cross that one off my list. ;)

The setting that mach uses for the 1024 screen set for gcode editor is not what MSM uses for editing. MSM has knows the difference between an editor to use for gcode and one to use for non-gcode files (Ex: reports etc). So MSM has it's own editor settings. Please go to the settings screen and click the "Set Utility Paths" button - that will let you set both editors and the pdf reader that gets used to show documentation.
