testing probe with smooth stepper

Post by petert »

I'm trying to setup a Wildhorse probe with a G540 and Smoothstepper replacing the parallel port output, so the step to check probe output on page 13 (as per the MSM guide Dave prepared) doesn't work. It does show activity on the next page in MSM.

Hi Peter,
Which document has the page 13 you referred to?

Since the instructions were for the PP, the smooth stepper will be slightly different.

In MSM on the hardware pages, there are two tabs: PP driver and Signals.
The PP driver page shows the electrical level lines attached to the parallel port. This page won't show the probe input line changing when using a SS since the probe is physically attached to the smooth stepper instead of the PP.
I don't remember if the smooth stepper software provides a way to monitor the electrical inputs to the smooth stepper, if it does you can use that in place of the PP driver page.

The Signals tab of the hardware pages in MSM will show the probe signal independent of the use of a PP or a SS. This is because the "signal" level is mach's next layer up - it is the "logical level" probe signal and is the same no matter if you use a PP or a SS or something else.
