Hi,
Please see this thread -

The state of mach 4 has not changed enough since July for there to be a different answer.

Thanks Dave. I dug a while at the site and full agree with everything you say. It will be interesting to see how this goes as this has all the trappings of a product that needed some improvements and what came out is something far beyond what was wanted or needed for many customers.
How many OEMS's who (like you I'm sure), spent man-years perfecting scripts, engines to create runnable code etc, will now find it feasible to do it all over again? My gut tells me that you would have to have the majority of your user base switch, to make it feasible, and Artsoft says right up front that all changes needed to make anything work from 3 to 4 is on the OEM , we'll call you, don't call us

And I look at the list of features, and if I strip out what you provide, whats left is features at the very high end, and performance enhancements. But even if they get "100x faster response from button to action",
for me (I'm NOT a high end user), thats like a fast blink to a really fast blink. The machine is already operating faster than I am, and running at the top speed the internal controller allows, so ??????
I hope if works out, but even they say Mach3 will be sold for years to come, as they really can't drop it till there are enough new pieces to fill in for the old ones, and I may be wrong ( probably am), but my experience is the longer you sell the older version, the longer and harder it takes to sell the newer, and the fewer switch.
Thanks for a great product, I'd be lost without it.

Hey Dave:
How's things? Been a while.
I finally got Mach4 running with my ESS, and I will say that the market is probably there for version of MSM. I know I'd buy a copy.
The screens that come with Mach4 are not that great.

Hi Andy,
While I appreciate the sentiment re purchasing a copy of a mach4 flavor of MSM, I doubt you'd like the price point it would have to have....
The mach 4 user base is simply not large enough to pay back the development costs that would be required.

Well, yeah, there is that-it has been a long slow road to Mach4, that's for sure.
But I would bet a lot more people will start using it in the next year-it is now at the point where a tech-savvy user (like me) can get it working, and it seems really good. It is very stable, Mach3 used to crash on me all the time-or else it would start doing strange things like not obeying MDI commands, etc....
Anyway, just some food for thought......

Has there been any movement on this on the 3 years since last time this topic was broached?
MSM is brilliant and makes Mach3 a joy to use. However, I'm tied to Mach3 / 4 due to using ESS hardware. So... now Mach3 is not being developed any longer and is still buggy, is there anything on the horizon to use the same great MSM feel and logic, into Mach4?
All the best,
Dan

Hi Dan,
There has been no change. It still does not make sense for CVI to invest in mach4 version of MSM. The effort would be significant and the return on investment is unlikely to be more than the opportunity costs.
