I intend to purchase MSM Pro for my hobby machines (Sherline mill 2010 and lathe 4410) and have installed he Pro version in trial mode without problem on my desk computer.
It seems to work correctly on that computer (WIN7) although I am not controlling any machine from that station. However, on my CNC dedicated computer (WIN XP Pro SP3, no internet connection) I get errors.
Mach3 Version 3.043.066 on both computers are legit, licensed versions.
-MSM Screensetload Macro main ON ERROR trapped an unexpected error. ERR13 Type mismatch. MachStdMill could not initialize.
Mach will shut down.
The first time I got these errors I used 'Geek' Uninstaller and uninstalled MSM as well as Big Tex Blue Screen and also Mach3. After that I cleaned with CCleaner and reinstalled Mach as well as MSM Pro (but not Big Tex). I seem to remember that the computer should be rebooted immediately after Mach3 installation, so I did that too.
I should mention that prior to installing MSM on the CNC- computer, Mach3 as well as Big Tex blue screen ran without a hitch.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I should do or not do?
Hi,
Let's start with the basic info - I have some of it as said that Mach is version3.43.66 and Win is XP SP3.
What version of MSM is this - the latest MSM production release (2.0.10)?
It sounds like the MSM installation is messed up.
The first step would be to uninstall MSM. To uninstall MSM use the uninstall that MSM provides when it installs itself.
It can be started either from the start menu (Start/all programs/mach3/MacStdMill/uninstall MSM) or from the control panel where you uninstall programs.
Please refrain from the urge to use third party uninstallers and/or registry cleaners - both will only cause trouble. The MSM installer and uninstaller are the entities that know how to install and uninstall MSM - there is no way a 3rd party "uninstaller" will know what belongs to MSM and what doesn't...
Once MSM has been uninstalled, then run the MSM installer to get a new MSM install.
If the uninstall fails for some reason (Possible after using a registry cleaner), then go ahead and run the MSM Installer.
I suspect that the problems will then have gone away (the messages you posted tell me that some of the libraries that MSM installs and requires are probably missing).
If you run into trouble, let me know and if need be, we can get more technical about finding the issue.
The MSM version is 2.0.10 Pro downloaded this morning and it's the same download I got to work as trial on my desk computer.
On the CNC dedicated XP computer, I did the MSM uninstall as recommended (uninstall did not fail), rebooted and re-installed MSM. Installation went without hiccup but I get the exact same errors again when I VIEW>LOAD SCREENS>MachStdMill.set.
Out of curiosity I restarted Mach3 and left it in my previously functioning profile. No problem .... nothing got changed and it ran the mill as before.
Hum,
Very unusual.
I will email you directly some information that will tell you how to get some debug logs for me to look at to see what the problem is.
Dave
I got your email, Thanks, and replied with a question regarding a point you made.
I also need to clarify or correct a point I made in previous post, i.e.
Out of curiosity I restarted Mach3 and left it in my previously functioning profile. No problem .... nothing got changed and it ran the mill as before.
That's no longer true. I tried it again this morning. I had to uninstall MSM and re-install Mach3 again in order for the 'good' profile to work as before.

You are making a separate profile (mach XML file) to use with MSM right?
If you take an existing Mach profile, and simply change the screen set in that profile to MSM (via view load screen in the mach menu) that profile will become and "MSM profile" (MSM has to replace some stock macros to do what it does).
This is why the instructions (Readme file and section 13.3 of the user manual) have you make a copy of a mach profile and then use the copy with MSM. Once a particular profile is started with MSM, you can't get back to stock mach just by changing the profile's screen set entry).

Yep, I clone the new profile (calling it CalipsoTest) from my functioning, regular Mach3 profile. As a precaution I made a backup of the functioning profile before going ahead with the cloning.
Got fed up with the old (2002) CNC dedicated computer and bought a new one. It seems that the newer the computer and the PCI parallel cards, the more headache so I ended up installing my business related programs and accounting software on it and promoted the office computer to CNC computer.
The 'former' office computer is only 2 years old and has an on-board parallel port.
