One Signal Interface

Post by Structd »

Dave,

I finally received my Active Probe and plan on connecting everything up this weekend to work with my Touch Plates. I have been reviewing your schematic in Sect. 6.1.3.1 of the MSM User Manual however some of the info in the image of your 'Sample NC Probe and NO Touch Plate "wire-OR" circuit are hard to read.

Would you happen to have more details regarding this circuit; perhaps a better quality image, or better yet a PCB circuit layout and parts list?

Thanks,
Arthur

Hi,
The schematic diagram in the user manual is the only one I have.
If there is something you can't read,. please ask and I'll let you know what the text was intended to say.

There is no kit or PCB for the circuit. Pick your favorite breadboard/construction technique.

Dave,

I think I managed to read most of it by cleaning up the pixels, but I can't tell if the resistor in the 'optional section' is 2.2k or 22k. Can you pleaser verify which is correct?

Thank you,
Arthur

Hi,
R2 is 22k olhm.
R1 next to it is unspecified - it's value should be enough to limit current thru whatever LED is used so that the LED is not burned out.

Would you happen to have a basic schematic for the mobile touch plate you use in your videos; the one with no external wires and an LED indicator on the mobile touch plate?

Hum, my memory must be fading... the mobile touch plate for MSM that I used was just a piece of printed circuit board with a wire soldered to the corner that was connected to the probe input.

It's been some time since I made the videos but I don't remember any other touch plate.
Perhaps you can shoot me a link to the video you are referring to so I can refresh my memory?

Dave,

One of the videos you used it was in 'MSM Master Tool and ATLO Part 1'. You can skip forward to 8:49 in the video to see it.

Ah, that is a commercial product that I used to use a long time ago. It's a sandwich of two al plates and a hollow translucent plastic block. I suspect the internals are a series circuit with a battery and light (or a led and resister) between the plates. The two plates form contacts of a switch that closes the circuit. Tool touching top plate connects thru machine to bottom plate and the led goes on.

I don't remember where I got it, but you'll probably find one looking thru machinist tool catalogs.
