master tool offset not equal to zero

Post by 1hander »

i got this message today... it was alot longer than that but that was the first line.. can you shed some light on this...

no matter what i did it would not do a probing op ... i had to shut down and restart everthing...

im not sure what i did wrong... but like an idiot i let it go ahead and probe and destroyed another stylus... i changed it out remeasured and entered and saved the master ptl ..saved the tool table ... ran the recalculate tlo script... checked the z0 with T2 and all was well again...

i was doing really well... my confidence level has plummeted LOL

That message is MSM saying that it has detected that the TLO value for the master tool is messed up.
The message also gives some advise on ways that typically can happen.
Usually that comes from the TLO value getting set either manually or from being measured when NOT in master tool mode.

As you found out, it is NOT safe to go do a probing op when the TLO is wrong.... mach just adds offset numbers together. if you use a bad TLO value you get a bad position calculation from WC to MC - and the result is that the tool tip generally gets forced to try to go some where in MC that results is a crash.

Remeasure the Master tool while in Master tool mode and don't measure the MT in a non-MT mode and then switch back to using MT mode.

im 100 percent sure i did not measure the tool in non MT mode... and did not enter a value in manually... im really sure what happened... i hadnt done any tool measuring at all prior to getting that first message... and i never touched the MT mode button...
i referenced as i always do...
then did m6t1 to get the probe in there..
. moved over to the workpiece
i used a mach3 pocket wizard to get the circular pocket code
posted the code
then was doing a Z and circular pocket center
when i hit the button for the Z find probe
i got that message..
the PTL of the tool was correct when i checked in the TT...and the value in the TLO was 00000 ..
at this point i had not crashed it yet..
i couldnt get it to probe,,,so i ignored the warning and paid the price LOL

rebooted everything
rereferenced
i replaced the probe but did not recenter it...it was super close..
i remeasured and entered the PTL of the probe MT ,, manually in the tool table then hit save tool table
mounted and calibrated the probe and it came out .003 off of the actual calibration diameter..more than good enough
then ran the recalculate TLO script
then i hit save tool table again ..
after checking z height with tool 2 it was correct..
posted circular pocket again from circ pocket wizard
hit cycle start
asked for t2...mounted it
cycle start and all went well this time...

its possible i hit a button i shouldnt have but since i got everything working ive been very careful not to even play machinist when im tired or otherwise preoccupied...
im going to go through my tool table again...and do z height checks on them again.. it seems like its working perfect...then i leave it alone for 2 or 3 weeks ...then when icome back to it..it has a problem

i do keep getting a microsoft security essentials update popup...i have shut off all updates that i can find but the damn thing keeps coming up..
