Probe Functions Not Working

Post by PeterC »

I am having problems with the probing routines. This machine has run the Hoss 1024.set for a few months without any problems. Since I have installed MSM none of the probe functions will work.

System configuration
Mach version: 3.43.66
Win XP SP2 32 bit. Also have seen the same problem on Win 8, 64 bit
Controller: DSPMC/IP (Vital System) firmware rev. 8.33. Plugin ver. 4.0.19

1. Load tool# for probe.
2. Press "Probe Z-" button (or any other axis probe button)
3. Probing Op LED will flash about 2 times.
4. Reset button starts flashing
5. Press Reset button
6. Probing Error LED flashes. Message box "Interrupted by ESC/Stop.
7. The motor never moves during this probe attempt.

Tomorrow I may try to test the probe function on the DSPMC HiCon controller.

Hi,
please see section 8.11 of the user manual. Have you gone thru the steps in that section?
That section has a tutorial for setting up probing, if you are seeing all ops fail, work thru the section and let me know at what step things start to fail.
Also look in the mach history file for error messages that may be of help (the "Hist" button at the top of page will open the mach history file)

Dave,

Went through the steps in section 8.11 of the manual. Probing ver is 157.
The test fails at the manual test section 8.11.3 Testing simple XY direction probes. Fails as explained in my 1st post.

Is MSM compatible with the DSPMC?

Hi Peter,

The officially supported motion devices are the Parallel port and the Smooth Steppers. There are a couple of devices that are known to be poorly implemented (see http://www.calypsoventures.com/forums/v ... p?f=6&t=39 for more info).

Essentially, MSM works with any motion controller that correctly implements probing (including all the details) as compared to the Mach 3 parallel port driver. The hi-con stuff is in the "not tested that I know of" category... I've not heard of any problem with the hi-Con controllers, but I don't really know if they faithfully mimic a parallel port or not.

Let's see if we can find out - I'll email you a doc to you that tell show to turn on MSM debug logging.
If you'll turn it on, then try the simplest failing test case, and send me the log file, I'll take a look to see what I can learn.
